Maruti, the indisputable king of the budget car segment, has launched remarkably sought afters cars like the Maruti 800, the Wagon-R, the Swift, Swift Desire and the Alto.The Maruti Alto comes in two models, the Alto 800 and the Alto K10. Both cars are popular choices among the entry level buyers.
Alto K10, the sportier looking cousin of the the new Alto 800, is less spacious and has less headroom and shoulder room and poor rear seating space. The Alto 80 is powered by the old 796cc three cylinder engine mated to a five speed gearbox that gives a power of 46.3bhp. The Alto K10 on the other hand, has a three-cylinder 1-litre engine, mated to a five speed gearbox and has power of 67.1 bhp. It has a great power to weight ratio and offers one of the best ride quality and handing in the segment. In terms of fuel efficiency, there is not much difference between the two, with the Alto 800 offering a slightly better mileage of 15.7 kmpl. The Alto 800 is also cheaper than the Alto K10.

The Verdict: If you want to buy an entry level, inexpensive, and comfortable car then the Alto 800 is the car for you. The Alto K10, though not the best cars in terms of seating comfort, has a better performance. So if you want a sportier looking car which is more powerful and offers great handling the Alto K10 should be your go to car.
